- Returning to the Roots: My Journey from Holy Fire® to Traditional Japanese Reiki
A Personal Awakening When I began my Reiki journey, Holy Fire® Reiki offered a sense of peace I hadn’t known before. It opened doors to healing—first for myself, then for others. Over time, I certified at the Master level, embraced its structure, and built a practice rooted in love, compassion, and energy. I followed this with a Master Level class in Kid Reiki, and the ICRT Animal Reiki Master Level. But something in me began to shift. It started as a quiet restlessness. I felt drawn to go deeper, beyond the comfort of what I’d been taught. I found myself asking: What was Reiki before all of this? What did Mikao Usui really teach? What have we forgotten in our modern adaptations? That question pulled me into something I didn’t expect: a spiritual return, yet another awakening within me. The Sun is Within Everyone of us, Right in our Hara Training with Frans Stiene: The Door to Traditional Reiki In 2024, I began studying with Frans Stiene of the International House of Reiki—one of the most respected teachers in the world of traditional Japanese Reiki. His teachings weren’t branded, flashy, or scripted. They were rooted. His teachings are known as coming from pure Japanese lineage is known as Usui Reiki Ryōhō , isn’t about channeling energy from a divine source or receiving symbolic downloads. It’s about becoming Reiki —living it, breathing it, embodying it. Through meditative practices, chanting, breathwork, and self-inquiry, I was guided not toward something new, but toward something ancient and forgotten within me: That Reiki is not what we do. Reiki is what we are. Every living being is Reiki. What Changed in My Practice Letting go of Holy Fire® wasn’t easy—it had become part of my identity. But the more I stepped into this traditional system, the more I realized: I wasn’t walking away from healing. I was walking toward something more honest, grounded, and clear. Some key shifts in my practice include: Discovering the hara and the importance of the awareness of this energetic center 2 to 3 inches below the belly button. No longer “channeling” energy —instead, I create space for connection with others by entering a state of grounded, empty presence. I guide people to their healing. Letting go of external symbols as the primary focus and returning to breath, stillness, and the five Reiki precepts. Reiju instead of placements —an energetic blessing that gently awakens your own connection to spiritual energy. Interconnected not separate. Teaching students that healing begins with them and then and only then is it shared. It is a personal journey first and foremost. Why This Matters for You Whether you’ve worked with me before or are discovering Reiki for the first time, this transition matters because it shapes the space I hold for you. My sessions may feel quieter, deeper, more reflective. My classes are now built around personal practice, not performance. The Reiki I offer now is not about fixing —it’s about finding yourself. For My Past Students If you trained with me in Holy Fire®, you’re still part of this journey.I will be offering a transition class for students who want to explore this deeper path—a way to gently shift your practice from external tools to internal embodiment. This is not about unlearning—it’s about remembering and listening. Final Thoughts: Coming Home to Reiki In Japanese, the word “Reiki” is written as 霜気— spiritual energy. Not something to summon, send, or channel. But something to rediscover within. And if it calls to you, I would be honored to walk beside you. - A Living Practice: My Evolving Relationship with the Reiki Symbols
By Mandy Carter, Healing Homes & Hearts Hands of Internal Light Since completing my Shinpiden level training, something within me has shifted. One of the notable shifts is my Evolving Relationship with the symbols. This wasn’t just another class—it felt like a sacred remembering. After five years of working with the Reiki symbols in the Holy Fire® tradition, I’m finally beginning to experience what it means to embody them, rather than simply apply them. This blog is a reflection on that journey. Note: Out of respect for the sacred nature of Reiki, symbol names are abbreviated and intended for those already attuned. CKR – No Longer Thrown, but Breathed CKR used to be my power move. I’d energetically throw it into a room, into a session, into the air—always externally, to clear or protect. But as I chanted CKR during Shinpiden, everything began to evolve. I began breathing it in, resting it into my hara, and allowing it to spiral into the Earth. It’s grounding. Embodied. Quietly powerful. And no longer fear-based. It reminds me that protection isn’t resistance—it's presence. SHK – Reclaiming Inner Harmony SHK was my go-to emotional balm. I used it on clients almost by default, especially during emotional sessions. But now I understand the power of inviting it inward. I chant SHK into my own emotional field. I ask it to hold me before I ever offer it to someone else. Presence is the gift. Steadiness is the transmission. HSZSN – A Divine Heart Awakens I used to see HSZSN as a bridge—something I threw into the distance to send Reiki far away. But now, it feels like a sacred reactivation of what’s already true: that we are One. HSZSN is no longer something I use. It is the recognition of our already-connected divine hearts. There is no distance in love. There never was. DKM – Becoming the Light When I first received DKM, it felt distant—almost unreachable. But slowly, through breath and practice, it’s becoming the quiet light I carry. Each time I chant it, I feel a lampshade lifting from my inner flame. This isn’t a symbol I use—it’s who I’m becoming. A living embodiment of Reiki. I don't send it anymore. I am it. Teaching from Embodiment This shift has reignited my joy in teaching. I don’t need to explain Reiki—I guide others into direct relationship with it. The symbols aren't tools. They are teachers. And my role is to support students as they listen, feel, and remember their own light. A Practice, Not a Performance I now sit with the symbols one at a time, letting them live inside me. I chant them. I walk with them. I breathe them into sessions, not to fix—but to remember. Combined with a deeper embodiment of the Reiki precepts, my practice has become more spacious, more real, and more rooted in trust. I no longer feel the need to protect myself from energy. I trust that what is mine will stay, and what is not will pass through like a breeze. Final Reflections This is not the end of a journey. It’s a homecoming. I am no longer doing Reiki. I am becoming Reiki. The symbols are mirrors now. They show me who I truly am. And for that, I am deeply grateful. If You’re Feeling the Call… If you're walking the Reiki path and feel called to deepen your connection—whether you're brand new or many years into your journey—I invite you to explore with me. Through classes, mentorship, and sacred community, we remember together that healing is already within us. With light and gratitude, Mandy Carter Reiki Teacher & Spiritual Guide www.healinghomes444.com
- Unlocking the Power of Reiki: A Beginner's Guide
Welcome to the world of Reiki, a powerful yet gentle form of energy healing that can transform your life. Whether you're looking to alleviate physical pain, reduce stress, or embark on a spiritual journey, Reiki offers profound benefits. In this guide, we'll explore the fundamentals of Reiki, its benefits, and how you can start your own healing journey. What is Reiki? Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing that aims to balance the body's energy flow. The term "Reiki" comes from two Japanese words: "Rei," meaning universal, and "Ki," meaning life energy. Together, they represent a universal life force energy that flows through all living things. The History of Reiki Reiki was discovered or rediscovered by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. Usui was in search of enlightenment. He was gifted with this healing practice after a deep spiritual experience on Mount Kurama in Japan. Since then, Reiki has spread worldwide, with various forms and practices evolving over time. Reiki was brought to the United States by a woman named Mrs. Takata. Being of Japanese descent, Mrs. Takata resided in Hawaii. She returned to Japan during a health crisis and there she discovered Reiki. She was passionate about spreading Reiki after her complete healing and ability to avoid surgery. When she returned to Hawaii she brought the knowledge with her and began teaching westerners. The Principles of Reiki The core principles of Reiki, often called the Reiki Precepts, guide practitioners in their daily lives: Just for today, do not worry. Just for today, do not anger. Be grateful. Work diligently. Be kind to others. These principles help align one's energy with the universal life force. How Does Reiki Work? Reiki works by channeling energy through the practitioner's hands to the recipient. This energy can remove blockages, balance chakras, and promote natural healing. Understanding how energy flow and chakras work is crucial for grasping the essence of Reiki. Energy Flow and Chakras Chakras are energy centers within the body that correspond to different physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects. There are seven main chakras, from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. Reiki helps to clear and balance these chakras, promoting overall well-being. Removing Stuck Energy (Byoki) In Reiki teachings, stuck negative energy is often referred to as byoki. This byoki can accumulate from negative thoughts, emotions, and traumas. It's believed that this stuck energy is the root of many illnesses and problems within the body. Reiki helps to remove byoki, allowing the body's energy to flow freely and enabling the natural healing processes. By clearing this negative energy, Reiki creates space for positive changes and wellness. The Role of the Reiki Practitioner A Reiki practitioner acts as a conduit for the universal life force energy. They use specific hand positions and techniques to channel energy into the recipient's body, facilitating healing and balance. Practitioners are trained to sense energy blockages and intuitively guide the healing process. Benefits of Reiki Reiki offers a wide range of benefits, addressing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Here are some of the key benefits you can experience with regular Reiki sessions. Physical Benefits Reiki can help alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and accelerate the healing process of injuries. It also strengthens the immune system, enhances sleep quality, and promotes overall physical health. Emotional and Mental Benefits Reiki is known for its ability to reduce stress and anxiety. It promotes emotional balance, clarity of mind, and enhances one's ability to cope with life's challenges. Many people find that Reiki helps them release emotional traumas and fosters a sense of inner peace. Spiritual Benefits On a spiritual level, Reiki can deepen your connection to your higher self and the universe. It encourages spiritual growth, intuition, and a sense of purpose. Practitioners and recipients often report heightened awareness and a deeper understanding of their life's path. What to Expect in a Reiki Session If you're new to Reiki, it's natural to wonder what a session involves. Here's a breakdown of what you can expect before, during, and after your first Reiki session. Preparing for Your First Session Before your session, it's important to relax and set an intention for your healing. Wear comfortable clothing and drink plenty of water. You may also want to meditate or reflect on any specific issues you'd like to address. The Reiki Healing Process During the session, you'll typically lie down on a massage table. The practitioner will place their hands lightly on or just above your body in various positions. You may feel warmth, tingling, or a sense of deep relaxation as the energy flows. Each session usually lasts between 60 to 90 minutes. Post-Session Considerations After the session, take some time to rest and integrate the healing. Drink water and avoid strenuous activities. You may experience emotional releases or physical sensations as your body adjusts to the energy shifts. Learning Reiki Interested in becoming a Reiki practitioner? Here's what you need to know about the training process and finding a Reiki Master. Levels of Reiki Training Reiki training in the Usui/Holy Fire® tradition is typically divided into three levels: Level 1: Focuses on self-healing and basic techniques. Students learn how to channel Reiki energy for personal use and to help others. Level 2: Introduces distance healing and advanced techniques. This level provides students with the skills to send Reiki across time and space and includes additional symbols for enhanced energy work. This can be completed in a two-day consecutive class or separately. Master Level: This is the Master level, where you learn to teach and attune others. It includes advanced healing techniques, the Master symbol, and preparation for becoming a Reiki Master Teacher. The Master level can be taken six months after Level 2 is complete. Finding a Reiki Master Finding the right Reiki Master is crucial for your training. Look for someone with experience, a good reputation, and a teaching style that resonates with you. Mandy Carter, a seasoned Reiki Master, continues her training in Usui/Holy Fire® Reiki and holds a Master level in Kid Reiki™ and ICRT Animal Reiki. You can reach out to Mandy by email at healinghomes444@gmail.com for guidance and training opportunities. Reiki in Daily Life Reiki isn't just for formal sessions; it can be integrated into your daily routine. Here are some ways to incorporate Reiki into your everyday life. Self-Reiki Practices Practicing self-Reiki daily can help maintain your energy balance and overall well-being. Spend a few minutes each morning and evening to channel Reiki energy into your body, focusing on areas that need healing. Integrating Reiki with Other Healing Modalities Reiki complements other healing practices such as yoga, meditation, acupuncture, and massage. Integrating Reiki with these modalities can enhance their effectiveness and provide a holistic approach to your well-being. Conclusion Reiki is a powerful tool for healing and personal growth. By understanding its principles and practices, you can unlock its full potential and transform your life. Whether you're seeking relief from physical ailments, emotional stress, or spiritual disconnection, Reiki offers a path to balance and harmony. FAQs Q1: Is Reiki safe for everyone?
