- Space Clearing 101: When Your Home Needs an Energy Refresh
I stepped through the front door and felt it before anyone said a word. The house was tidy. Sunlight came in clean through the front windows, the kitchen smelled like coffee, nothing was out of place. And yet the air in the living room sat heavy, the way a room feels when it has been holding its breath for a long time. The family who lived there had been through a hard winter, an illness, then a loss, then the slow exhaustion that follows both. They had cleaned every surface. What they could not reach with a sponge was the weight that had settled into the walls. That weight is what space clearing tends to. Not dust, not clutter, but the quieter residue a home gathers as life moves through it. What Space Clearing Is (And What It Is Not) Space clearing is the practice of attending to the energy of a home the same way you might attend to the body during a Reiki session. Rooms hold the imprint of what happens in them. Grief, conflict, stress, and stagnation leave something behind, and over time that something can make a space feel dense, tired, or strangely off even after a deep clean. A space blessing is the gentler companion to clearing. Where clearing softens and releases what no longer needs to stay, a blessing invites in steadiness, warmth, and a sense of welcome for the season ahead. I usually offer both together, because a home that has been cleared deserves to be filled with something kind. It helps to say plainly what this work is not. It is not a performance, and it is not about fear. I do not arrive treating your home as a problem to be fought or a place under threat. The Reiki moves around the space gently, settling into corners, never pushed or forced. Clearing is not a substitute for the practical care a home needs either. If a room is heavy because of grief, the clearing supports the grieving. It does not erase it. Six Times a Home Asks for Clearing Most people sense when something has shifted in their space. These are the moments clients most often reach out. Moving into a new home is the most common. You are not only inheriting walls, you are inheriting whatever the previous occupants left in them. Clearing lets the home become yours from the inside. Illness is another. When someone has been sick in a house for a long stretch, the rooms can hold that experience long after recovery begins. A clearing helps the space turn the page alongside the person. Grief settles into a home in a way that is hard to name. After a loss, clearing offers the household room to breathe again without rushing anyone through their sorrow. Divorce or the end of a relationship leaves a home divided in a quiet way. Clearing helps the space stop echoing the conflict and start belonging to the people still living there. Stagnation is subtler. Sometimes a home simply feels stuck, like the air is not moving and neither are you. That heaviness is often the first thing a clearing lifts. New beginnings round out the list. A new baby, a new business run from a spare room, a fresh chapter after a long hard one. Clearing and blessing give the threshold the welcome it deserves. What My Process Involves I begin by listening, both to you and to the home. Before any clearing I want to understand what the space has been holding and what you hope it will feel like afterward. Then I move slowly through the rooms with Reiki and traditional clearing practices, working with the energy around each space rather than against it. I close with a blessing, an invitation for ease and warmth to settle in where the heaviness used to live. When I trained in the lineage of Frans Stiene at the International House of Reiki, one lesson stayed with me above the others. The work is never about force. It is about creating the conditions for something to soften on its own. That is as true for a room as it is for a person. In Person or From a Distance In-person clearing in the Springfield area lets me walk the space with you, room by room. Many people find the shared presence reassuring, and the home responds to being attended to directly. Distant clearing works for homes outside my local area or for anyone who would rather hold the session privately. With a few details about your space and a scheduled time, the Reiki reaches the home wherever it is. Distance does not weaken the work. The energy moves by intention, not by proximity. What People Notice Afterward Clients often describe the same handful of shifts. The air feels lighter, almost roomier, even though nothing physical has changed. Sleep tends to come easier. Spaces that had felt avoidable, a particular corner or a room nobody wanted to sit in, become usable again. More than anything, people tell me the home finally feels like theirs. That is the quiet aim of all of it. If your home has been carrying a hard season, you do not have to keep living inside the weight of it. A clearing and blessing can help the space turn toward something gentler.
- Animal Reiki: How Energy Healing Works for Pets
The old cat had not let anyone near her in three days. She sat at the far edge of the room, shoulders drawn in, watching me the way animals watch when something hurts. I lowered myself to the floor a few feet away, rested my hands open in my lap, and did nothing at all. I simply breathed and let the Reiki settle around the room. After a while her ears softened. Then her eyes. By the time the light in the window had shifted, she had crossed the floor on her own and pressed her side against my knee. She had chosen to receive. That moment holds almost everything I want people to understand about animal Reiki healing sessions. The work is gentle, it is led by the animal, and it asks nothing. How animals experience Reiki People sometimes imagine I am doing something to the animal. I am not. In Traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho, the practitioner settles into a calm, open state and offers a space the animal can enter if it wishes. The Reiki moves by the animal and around it, never pushed into the body. Animals are far less guarded than we are. They carry no stories about whether energy healing is real. They simply notice when a room grows quieter and softer, and most of them lean toward it. I learned this slowly. Early in my practice I wanted to place my hands on every animal I met, the way I work with people who ask for hands-on sessions. The animals taught me otherwise. A dog would step back, or a horse would turn its head away, and I came to understand that the stepping back was part of the conversation, not a refusal of it. The consent-based approach: the animal chooses This is the heart of how I work, and it is shaped by the consent-based method that the Shelter Animal Reiki Association has done so much to teach. I begin every session by offering, never imposing. I settle nearby, open the space, and wait. The animal decides how close to come, how long to stay, and whether to receive at all. Consent looks different in each animal. A cat might fall asleep in my lap. A dog might lie down with its spine against my leg. A rabbit might simply stop trembling. Some animals receive from across the room and never touch me once. All of these are full sessions. The animal that wanders off after ten minutes has taken exactly what it needed, and I honor that by letting it go. In-person and distant animal Reiki Animal Reiki works beautifully both in person and at a distance. For animals here in Springfield, Ohio, I often come to the home, because a familiar space helps a nervous animal relax. We choose a room where the animal already feels safe, and I let the session unfold on its terms. Distant sessions surprise people the most. Reiki is not bound by the space between us, and many animals settle just as deeply when I work from my own quiet room while their person sits with them at home. Distant work is gentle for animals who are anxious around strangers, recovering from surgery, or living too far for a visit. The person often tells me afterward that their pet sighed, stretched out, and slept at the very time the session began. Which animals benefit I have offered Reiki to dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, birds, and small animals who fit in two cupped hands. Animals living with chronic pain or stiffness often soften noticeably. Rescue animals carrying fear from an earlier life tend to settle over a series of sessions. Older animals nearing the end of life receive Reiki as pure comfort, and it can be a tender support for the whole household during that time. Reiki also helps animals adjusting to a new home, a new sibling, or the grief of losing a companion. What a session looks like A typical session lasts thirty to forty-five minutes, though the animal sets the real length. I arrive calm and unhurried. We spend a few minutes letting the animal notice me. Then I settle, soften my own breath, and open the space. From there I follow the animal. Sometimes I am invited to rest my hands lightly on its back. Often I am not, and the whole session happens with several feet between us. The room grows still. Many people in the home feel it too and find themselves breathing more slowly. What not to expect Reiki is not a replacement for veterinary care, and I never treat it as one. If an animal is sick or injured, the veterinarian comes first, always. Reiki works alongside that care as gentle support, not instead of it. I also cannot promise a particular outcome. I do not push energy to fix anything. I offer a calm, supportive space, and I trust the animal to take what serves it. What I can promise is that the work will be gentle, patient, and led entirely by your animal. If you have an animal who could use that kind of quiet support, I would be honored to sit with them.
- 5 Signs You Might Be an Empath (And How Reiki Can Help)
You drove home from a friend's house and something felt wrong. Not with her, not with you, but the heaviness in your chest that had arrived sometime around hour two of the visit had no clear source. You hadn't been sad walking in. By the time you pulled into your driveway, you felt exhausted in a way that a full night of sleep couldn't touch. You poured a glass of water, sat down at the kitchen table, and realized, slowly, that what you were carrying had been hers. That moment of quiet recognition, when you understand that the feeling was never yours to begin with, is one that many people describe as the first real glimpse into what it means to move through the world as an empath. There is no clinical checklist that fully captures it. It is less a diagnosis and more a way of being. If several of these five signs sound familiar, you may be living as one, and Reiki, practiced in the Traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho lineage, may offer support you did not know was available. 1. You Absorb Other People's Emotions Without Meaning To It happens in grocery stores. It happens at family gatherings, at restaurants, in waiting rooms. Someone nearby is struggling, and before you can name what is shifting in your own body, their distress has settled into your chest or your shoulders or the back of your throat. This is not imagination. It is not anxiety, though it can look like it from the outside. For people who experience the world this way, other people's emotional states register the same way physical sensations do. Grief arrives like a stone. Anger arrives like heat. Joy can be almost overwhelming in its fullness. The trouble is that without some way to recognize what belongs to you and what does not, you spend a great deal of energy carrying feelings that were never meant to stay. 2. Crowds Leave You Depleted, Not Energized Parties, concerts, busy shopping centers. Most people come home from these events tired but satisfied. If you come home flattened, disoriented, and needing hours alone to feel like yourself again, that is worth paying attention to. Being around many people at once means being around many emotional states at once. For someone whose nervous system picks up on all of it, a crowded room is not social. It is saturating. 3. You Feel the Weight of the World, Personally News stories do not stay at a comfortable distance. Violence, suffering, injustice, these register in your body as if they are close. You may find yourself limiting how much news you consume, not because you are indifferent, but because you are so deeply affected that full exposure leaves you unable to function. This is not weakness. It is sensitivity. The work is learning to hold awareness of suffering without being consumed by it. 4. People Tend to Bring You Their Problems, Often Without Being Invited Strangers in line at the coffee shop. Coworkers who do not know you well. There is something about the way you listen, something about the quality of your presence, that makes people feel safe enough to tell you things. This is a gift. It is also a burden if you have not yet learned how to offer presence without absorbing everything that is brought to you. 5. You Know Something Is Wrong Before Anyone Says a Word You walk into a room and can feel the tension from an argument that ended an hour ago. You can tell when a friend is not actually fine, even when she insists she is. Something in the quality of the space, or the energy around a person, tells you the truth before any words do. This kind of knowing is quiet. It does not announce itself. It simply arrives. Why Reiki Suits Empaths Traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho is a practice of conscious energy awareness. Sessions work with the body's natural intelligence, inviting it to settle, to release what it has been holding that does not belong to it, and to come back to its own center. For empaths, this matters for a specific reason. Reiki moves by you, not through you. That distinction is both theological and practical. It means that a session is not about flooding the body with something external. It is about creating the conditions for your own system to recognize itself again, to soften around what it has absorbed, and to release it gently. When I work with clients who describe absorbing others' emotions, what I see most often is a nervous system that has been working overtime for years. The body holds the accumulated weight of feelings that were never processed as belonging to someone else. Reiki invites the body to do something simple and profound: let go of what was never yours. Energetic Boundaries: What Regular Sessions Can Establish One of the things empaths often report after working with Reiki consistently is a shift in how they experience other people's emotions. Not numbness. Not disconnection. Something more like a membrane: the ability to feel, to be present, to care deeply, and to know where another person ends and you begin. That boundary is not built by force. It is not maintained by effort. It settles naturally when your own energy field becomes clearer, more coherent, more like itself. Sessions work with this gently. Over time, many clients describe simply feeling less battered by the world, and more like a person who has something to offer it. Beginning This Work If any of this resonates, you do not need to have it all figured out before you take a first step. Reiki sessions are a place to arrive exactly as you are, carrying whatever you have picked up, without needing to explain it in clinical terms or justify why you are tired. Sessions are available in person in Springfield, Ohio, and by distance for those outside the area. If you are ready to come back to yourself, I would be glad to sit with you.
