QHHT vs. Hypnotherapy: What's the Difference?

If you have ever searched for hypnotherapy and wondered why some listings mention QHHT — or looked up Quantum Healing Hypnosis and ended up more confused than when you started — you are not alone. Both involve an altered state of awareness. Both can shift things at a deep level. But they are not the same thing, and knowing the difference matters when you are deciding what kind of support is right for you.

What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a broad term for therapeutic work done in a state of focused relaxation — sometimes called trance. A trained hypnotherapist guides you into a state where the conscious, analytical mind relaxes and the subconscious becomes more accessible. From there, a practitioner can help you work through fears, break unwanted patterns, address anxiety, or shift deeply held beliefs. Sessions are often goal-oriented: quit smoking, reduce a fear, improve sleep. It is recognized as a legitimate complementary practice and is used by counselors, therapists, and holistic healers worldwide.

What Is QHHT?

QHHT — Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique — was developed by the late Dolores Cannon over more than 45 years of research and practice. It goes further than traditional hypnotherapy by guiding the client into the Somnambulistic level of trance, one of the deepest states of relaxation a person can reach while still being able to communicate.

At that depth, something remarkable becomes accessible: what Dolores Cannon called the Subconscious, also described as the Higher Self. This is the part of you that holds your complete soul history, understands the true root of your experiences, and — given the opportunity — can offer profound healing at the physical, emotional, and spiritual level. QHHT sessions often include past life exploration, but that is not the whole picture. Many people receive insight about current-life patterns, life purpose, relationships, and health. The Subconscious brings forward exactly what the person is ready to receive.

The Key Differences

Traditional hypnotherapy and QHHT both use trance states, but they differ in depth, intent, and scope. Traditional hypnotherapy typically operates at a lighter trance level and focuses on a specific issue the client brings to the session. The work is often directed by the therapist toward a defined goal.

QHHT aims for the deepest available trance level — the Somnambulistic state — and is client-led in a different way. You may explore scenes from this life or others, and the Subconscious itself guides what surfaces. The practitioner asks the questions; the answers come from your own Higher Self. QHHT is not about fixing one symptom — it is about understanding the whole picture, from the soul level.

What Happens in a QHHT Session?

A QHHT session at Healing Homes & Hearts with Rev. Mandy Carter typically runs three to five hours and takes place in person at 509 S Fountain Ave in Springfield, Ohio.

We begin with an extended conversation — your life story, your questions, your intentions for the session. That conversation matters. The Subconscious uses everything you bring. Then comes the hypnosis itself. You will recline comfortably, close your eyes, and follow a guided relaxation that takes you gently into a deep, peaceful state. Scenes or impressions may arise — sometimes from this life, sometimes from what feels like another time entirely. We follow what comes. Near the end, Mandy speaks directly with the Subconscious, asking your prepared questions and requesting healing where it is appropriate and possible.

You will emerge feeling rested, and often with a clarity that is hard to describe — a sense of things settling into place.

Who Is QHHT Right For?

QHHT tends to be a good fit for people who feel there is something deeper going on beneath the surface — unexplained symptoms, recurring patterns, big life questions that regular approaches have not answered. It is also meaningful for people who are spiritually curious, drawn to the idea that this life may not be the whole story.

It is not a quick fix and it is not therapy in the clinical sense. It is a conversation with the wisest, most expansive part of yourself. If you are open, curious, and ready to receive — QHHT will meet you exactly where you are.
